Thrust Roller Bearing

Thrust roller bearing is a kind of high quality rolling bearing which only bears axial load. However, it has high axial rigidity and is suitable for heavy loads. THB, a tapered roller thrust bearing manufacturer, provides several types of thrust roller bearings.

Cylindrical Roller Thrust Bearing

Thrust cylindrical roller bearings are separable bearings, generally consisting of two washers (raceways) and cylindrical rollers. It can withstand heavy axial loads and shock loads. But it must not support any radial load. Because of its overbore design, only a small amount of axial space is required.

Spherical Roller Thrust Bearing

THB's spherical roller thrust bearings are designed to transfer loads from one raceway to another at a specific angle to the shaft bearing. These bearings can withstand axial loads acting in one direction and radial loads acting simultaneously. It is suitable for high load and relatively high speed operating conditions.

Thrust Roller Bearing Application

Cylindrical roller bearings are commonly used in automotive, marine and aerospace applications. Sometimes it is also used for the main rotor and tail rotor blade clamps of RC (radio control) helicopters. As a professional tapered roller thrust bearing manufacturer, THB-Bearings has its own thrust roller bearing factory which can produce high-quality thrust roller bearings meeting different situations.

Thrust Roller Bearing Types

Thrust spherical roller bearings are used to bear the combined axial and radial load, but the radial load shall not exceed 55% of the axial load. Compared with other thrust bearings, this kind of bearing has lower frictional factor, higher speed, and has self-aligning performance.

Thrust bearings are divided into thrust ball bearings and thrust roller bearings. Thrust ball bearings are divided into single direction thrust ball bearings, double direction thrust ball bearing and angular contact thrust ball bearings. Thrust roller bearings are divided into cylindrical roller thrust bearings, spherical roller thrust bearings, tapered roller thrust bearings and needle roller thrust bearings.

Cylindrical roller thrust bearings and tapered roller thrust bearings are suitable for low speed occasions. The speed of tapered roller thrust bearings is slightly higher than that of cylindrical roller thrust bearings. Cylindrical roller thrust bearings are separable bearings, which can only bear one-way axial load and slight impact, and can limit the axial displacement of the shaft (or housing) in one direction, so it can be used for one-way axial positioning. But its carrying capacity is far greater than that of thrust ball bearings. When the rollers are rolling, due to the different linear speeds at the two ends of the roller, the roller will inevitably slide on the raceway of the ring. Therefore, the limit speed of this type of bearing is lower than that of the thrust ball bearing, and it is usually only suitable for low-speed operation.

The standard design of cylindrical roller thrust bearing adopts a machined metalic solid cage. According to user requirements, different types of cages or materials can also be used. Tapered roller thrust bearings can only bear one-way axial load and can limit the one-way axial displacement of the bearing, so it can be used for one-way axial positioning. Compared with cylindrical roller thrust bearings, the bearing capacity is large, the relative sliding is small, but the limit speed is higher.

The Installation and Maintenance of Thrust Roller Bearing

  • The assembly method of thrust roller bearing: because thrust roller bearing is a high-precision product, improper assembly can easily cause damage to the thrust roller bearing raceway, resulting in damage to the thrust roller bearing. Thrust roller bearings should have special molds when assembling them, and they cannot be knocked at will. When they are pressed into the shaft, only small circles can be forced, and when pressed into the seat hole, only large circles can be forced. Air pressure or hydraulic pressure is required for assembly, and the upper and lower molds should be outside the horizontal state during press-fitting. If there is an inclination, the thrust roller bearing channel will be damaged due to the force, which will cause the thrust roller bearing to produce noise.

  • Prevention of paint rust: paint rust mostly occurs in sealed motors. The sound of the motor is very good during assembly, but after some time in the warehouse, the abnormal noise of the motor becomes very large. After removing the thrust roller bearing, there is severe rust. In the past, many manufacturers thought it was the problem of thrust roller bearings. After our continuous publicity, the motor factory has realized that the problem is mainly due to the insulating paint. This problem is mainly because the acidic substance volatilized from the insulating paint forms corrosive substances at a certain temperature and humidity, which corrodes the thrust roller bearing groove and causes the thrust roller bearing to be damaged. The problem can only be solved by choosing a good insulating paint, and ventilating for a period of time after drying and assembly.
